PROTECTION SUITS FOR THE HAZARDS OF LIVING IN THE EXTREME ENVIRONMENTS OF THE PSYCHE AND THE SOUL
Protectornauts was a suite of paper protection suits for psyche and soul, to guard the wearer against the hazards of living –i.e., exposure to the extreme environments of our emotional landscape. The sculptures were reimagined astronaut suits, sewn of Korean paper. The suits included a Nighttime Invisibility Protection Suit (Winner, Siemens Prize 2002); Emotion Ocean Protection Suit; Lotus Heart Mantra Protection Suit; Passion Immunity Suit; amongst others.

Protectornauts Series 2001-2004
Exhibited:
The Protectornauts project was originally called Ephemeral Protection, Lasting Vulnerability and the suite of sculptures made for my Masters (2004, RMIT University, Melbourne).
For this project I spent 3 months in South Korea (at Sung Shin Women’s University in Seoul) on a University Mobility Scholarship researching printing and paper making methods.
The Series of suits was later shown titled Protectornauts at RMIT Project Space, RMIT Story Hall Gallery, Zab Gallery and Dianne Tanzer Gallery in Melbourne, the Australian National University School of Art Gallery in Canberra, Iain Dawson Gallery Sydney, the Catstreet Gallery in Hong Kong.
